Taxation vs. Exemption Certificate

課税証明書kazei shōmeisho

Issued when you had taxable income. Shows total income, income after deductions, and the tax amount assessed.

非課税証明書hi-kazei shōmeisho

Issued when your income was below the taxable threshold or you were exempt. Confirms you were registered and assessed but owed no resident tax.

課税(又は非課税)証明書kazei (mata wa hi-kazei) shōmeisho

A single certificate covering both cases. This is what most municipal offices issue by default and what immigration procedures typically request.

Tips Before You Submit

Confirm no unpaid or late resident tax payments before applying; outstanding balances can delay or reject a PR application
